Union Mutual Presents 2023 Vermont Corporate Cup Challenge & State Agency Race

MONTPELIER – Union Mutual Insurance Company is pleased to announce it will once again be the presenting sponsor of the 40th annual Vermont Corporate Cup Challenge and State Agency Race. The event, to benefit The Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness & Sports, will take place in-person in Montpelier on May 11 and virtually May 11 through May 31. Registration is open through Monday, May 8.

“Union Mutual is proud to support the Corporate Cup again this year, and we look forward to seeing the runners and walkers pass by our home office on State Street,” said Lisa Keysar, President & CEO of Union Mutual. “This event is appreciated by our employees and is an important element of the work of the Governor’s Council to keep all Vermonters active and well.”

The Corporate Cup Challenge and State Agency Race is a popular 5k run/walk event open to teams from Vermont businesses, government, and non-profit organizations. Proceeds benefit the programs and events of the Vermont Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness & Sports, including the Vermont Senior Games, community wellness grants, parks pass prescriptions, Vermont Worksite Wellness Awards and subsidies for youth ski and snowboard lessons.

“We are excited to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this signature Vermont event, thanks to Union Mutual’s ongoing financial support,” said Janet Franz, Council chairperson. “The race is so much fun, and it’s for a great cause. It raises funds for Vermonters’ physical fitness initiatives and, for many participants, training for it motivates them to exercise regularly.”

The 2023 event marks the second in-person race since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants and bystanders are urged to follow current Vermont Department of Health COVID-19 guidance during the event.

The State Street start and finish line of the race is steps away from the home office of Union Mutual, which has called Montpelier home for nearly 150 years. The race has been a cornerstone of the Company’s wellness program for many years. The property-casualty insurance carrier has a rich history of sponsoring employee involvement, and in 2019, set a company record with 19 three-person teams participating in the race.
