Two Fashionable Teens Joyride And Crash NYC Subway Train

The New York City Subway is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. While the wait for a train can be lengthy late at night at some parts of the system, even on rare occasions when everything’s running smoothly, it doesn’t permit anyone to steal an empty train. The NYPD arrested two teenagers last week for allegedly joyriding and crashing a subway train on September 12.

The police claim that a 17-year-old girl entered an empty subway train at Briarwood station in Queens just after midnight with a 17-year-old male friend, PIX-11 reported. She then got to the controls and found a way to get the train going. They did get far, until the train crashed into another parked train, and the teens fled the scene but were caught on surveillance cameras. The MTA, the subway’s operator, hasn’t stated how much damage was done.

The stills released by the NYPD led to an interesting description of the female suspect. Several outlets stated that she was carrying a pink handbag and wearing a pink shower cap, a pink sleeveless shirt and pink shorts. There’s no way she was actually wearing a shower cap. It was New York Fashion Week. She was likely wearing a shiny metallic pink bonnet. To be fair, the poor lighting on the subway likely didn’t help, but the images were clear enough for law enforcement to apprehend both of them.
It’s surprising that trains aren’t stolen more often, considering that every attempt to fix the system backfires in the most ridiculous way. When Governor Hochul dramatically expanded the National Guard presence on the subway earlier this year, a subway rider was shot on a train with his own gun during a fight.
