Turn Your Cayenne Into A Pontiac Aztek With Porsche’s New Canopy Tent
Porsche has been leaning in to the overlanding trend for a few years now, releasing plenty of aftersales components to help make a Cayenne (or a 911) look a bit tougher and go a little bit farther off road, including launching a rooftop tent a few years ago. Now Porsche has released a new “multifunctional Porsche Canopy Tent” that will help you stay a little more comfortable when you get to your overlanding destination. This inflatable back door attachment has removable walls, and it can be used as an approximately 7.5-foot-by-7.5-foot sun shade when you’re not near your car, too.
Free-standing weather protection on the beach, a cosy lounge at the campsite, or a practical secluded spot in the garden: just a few of the uses that spring to mind for the multifunctional Porsche Canopy Tent. A central valve enables the tent to be inflated in a few minutes. It can then be quickly anchored to the ground using the storm-resistant fastening set with reflective belts. The standard equipment includes a practical hand pump, a side panel with a transparent plastic window, a floor cover with Velcro fasteners, and a vehicle connecting tunnel. The latter is a weatherproof corridor from the canopy tent to the tailgate of a four-door Porsche.

Pontiac did that once, and now it doesn’t even exist anymore! Back when the Aztek was introduced, it was laughed at for being a two-row minivan on stilts, but that’s all anyone really drives these days. The Aztek had an innovative rear-hatch-hugging camping tent, which still looks pretty damn nifty in 2024. If I can get enough of you to sign up for Jalopnik Gold, maybe I can buy myself an Aztek and live out of it for a while. No, wait, someone else did that.
Unlike the Pontiac, this canopy tent was designed by Studio F.A. Porsche in Switzerland, so you know it’s going to be expensive. It’s constructed in black and grey, with a topographic map graphic on it. Porsche will also sell you an “optionally available extension tent” that angles off the side. You can also order up walls for the sides of the canopy, or mesh inserts for insect protection.
Conveniently, if you’re out tent camping with another person who has a Cayenne and you want to connect your canopy tents together, Porsche says “(m)ultiple canopy tents can also be combined with the aid of a connecting element.” That’s convenient for, uh, overlanding swingers, I guess?
There’s no word yet on how much this inflatable shelter will cost you, but considering the Porsche-designed roof top tent is a $5,295 expense, it certainly won’t be easy on the wallet.
