Travel Insurance hints & tips…

As we are fast approaching the holiday season we thought it a good idea to give you some hints and tips to get the most from your travel insurance solution.
We’d like to share with you some ideas for getting the most competitive premium but also to let you know some of the pitfalls to avoid.
The rising costs of travel whether it be for leisure or business are a concern, however there are some tips to making savings on your travel insurance.
Travel insurance should be considered a necessity, especially for medical and emergency expenses and ion the worst-case scenario repatriation (cover to get you home).
Before you but travel insurance check to see if you home insurance policy provides “all risks” cover for your personal possessions. If so you could elect to remove the personal baggage / effects from your travel insurance and obtain a discount.
Think of buying annual multi-trip cover rather than a policy for a single-trip. If you intend to travel more than once during the next twelve months and especially if visiting North America, you could benefit from savings.
The annual multi-trip policy is great for a family unit and most will allow adults to travel independently meaning you can benefit from cover even if you are not with the kids.
Something to be mindful of with annual policies is that cancellation cover begins at the start date of the policy and not the purchase date as with single-trip policies. Our advice is to start the policy cover on the day you purchase the policy.
On a cautious note please be careful to disclose all pre-existing medical conditions and check to ensure that your policy has included cover for these conditions.
Regardless of how likely or unlikely any conditions is to effect your trip you do not want to get caught-out without cancellation cover prior to departure and perhaps more importantly you don’t want to have medical and emergency cover excluded whilst abroad leaving you to cover the costs of any medical expenses and possibly repatriation.
