Sometimes it seems as if Bring A Trailer is slowly turning into a crooked used car lot where low-mileage, basic cars go for big prices. It keeps happening and it’s happening yet again, this time with a Ford Escort from 1991 with just 358 miles on the clock.

This particular Escort is a ’93 LX Wagon; a top of the line Escort at the time. Someone purchased this vehicle new, put a couple hundred miles on it and then just locked it away. Who would do that to a car that, at the time, wasn’t really anything special? In a video included with the listing, The seller — a dealer called Competition Cars in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina — briefly explained the car’s history in the listing’s comments.

While the dealer is not quite sure the reason someone locked it away, the car was essentially a barn find. He purchased a home and found the Escort in the garage. The car was included as part of the deal in selling the home. He was told that the original owner of the car purchased it new, drove it for a few days — which explains the low miles — and parked it. It’s not known what happened to the original owner. It’s now in the hands of the current seller on BaT.

I’d call it a boring Escort except for the fact the car is in fantastic condition. From the automatic seatbelts and interior switchgear to the horses and belts under the hood, it’s damn near showroom perfect.

From what I can tell and the seller’s description, there’s nothing wrong with the car. There’s not even a speck of dirt or rust on the undercarriage. The seller says an oil change was performed on the 1.9-liter 88-horsepower I4 engine in preparation for the sale, so it should run perfectly fine. The tires are “pre-2000 date codes” however, so you want to pick up a new set of shoes before driving home.

Despite it being a 30+ economy car, this thing might go for a nice amount considering what it is. Bidding currently sits at $12,000, some $2,000 more than the car’s original MSRP. That price may seem wild, but at over 25 years old, this Escort definitely qualifies as “a classic” and a classic car is like a piece of art—it’s worth what people are willing to spend.
