Skydiving Plane Crash Lands On Mexican Beach, Kills Man On The Ground

A plane carrying four Canadian skydivers crash landed on a beach in southern Mexico, killing a man who was just trying to enjoy his time by the water on February 11. The plane landed in a populated part of Bacocho beach in the town of Puerto Escondido, falling “almost on top” of the 62-year-old victim, according to ABC News.

The four skydivers – who were between the ages of 25 and 60 – and one 40-year-old pilot were removed from the plane and taken to a local hospital for treatment. They were all in stable condition, Fox News reports. Right now, there’s no word on exactly why the plane went down, but it landed mostly intact, so that’s probably why its passengers were mostly OK, ABC says.

Officials tell ABC News the wife of the lone victim – the man on the ground – was nearby when the incident happened, but she was unharmed. The crash occurred right between the water and a wood bench structure used by local restaurants for seating.

“To the family of the person who died, we will provide all the necessary support and accompany them in the face of their irreparable loss,” Saloma Jara, State Governor, said according to Fox News.

Here’s more information about the plane and skydiving company, from Fox:

The plane was a Cessna Caravan, according to FlightAware. In a video posted by the Facebook account Puerto Global, the plane has the branding “Skydive Puerto Escondido” written on its side.
