We’ve seen our fair share of off-road crashes, including this Ford Bronco Sport that rolled 400 feet down a mountain but this latest one really is something else. A Ram TRX fell about 100 feet off a cliff in Moab, Utah, and somehow the driver survived. There was also a dog in the truck, and it survived, too.

The Ram From ‘Twister’ Is the Greatest Truck Ever

According to YouTuber Trail Mater, the driver and his dog were pretty seriously injured, but still, they lived. We highly doubt Ram’s safety engineers test how survivable 100-foot falls are in its trucks, but that’s just a testament to how safe modern vehicles are for occupants. It’s also a great reminder to always buckle your gat-dang seatbelt.

You can’t just leave a mangled truck at the bottom of a cliff, though, and that’s where Trail Mater comes in. Rory, the man behind the channel, operates a recovery service out in Utah and was brought in to get the truck out in as environmentally responsible a way as possible. A two-ton truck falling that far is probably going to leave behind slightly more than footprints, but it would also suck to see the recovery effort also do significant damage to the landscape.

As you can imagine, getting the truck out wasn’t exactly easy. In addition to the actual physical recovery, it also required coordinating with the owner, their insurance company, the local sheriff’s department, the Bureau of Land Management and the State Trust Lands Administration. With that all squared away, it was time to actually get the truck out, an absolutely fascinating process that’s fully documented in the video below.

Oh, and as a bonus, when they actually got to the truck, they found the window sticker crumbled up on the ground. “Total price? $96,185.”
