Post Office Mechanic Shows Just How Much Work Goes Into Getting The Mail To Your Door

Few vehicles in the world have worked harder than U.S. Post Office Grumman LLVs have since they first hit the road in the mid-1980s. Well, after about 38 years, most of them are in pretty bad shape. Because of that, the Post Office needs a team of mechanics working on these shitty little machines pretty much around the clock. Luckily for us, one of those mechanics is giving us an inside look at what it’s like to work on these white boxes.

The First ‘Fast X’ Trailer Is Out and Steve Has Theories About It

Domfromthepostoffice’s TikTok account started posting just five days ago, but it has already garnered 5,000 followers and 3 million views in just seven videos. Impressive work. In these videos, Dom shows us what it’s like maintaining mail trucks that have been used and abused for decades. We also get a look at how these trucks are cleaned out. In his first video, Dom shows us what “decades of rubber bands” and other little pieces of garbage look like on the floor of an LLV. He even shoots water at the walls of the truck, and we can see gallons of liquid gunk cascading down the sides. Nasty stuff. He posts the “after” in another video, and while it’s not perfect, it’s a hell of a lot better than it used to be.

Dom also takes us through what the flat weights in the back of the LLV are for. Apparently, it’s for traction. When there’s no load in the back of the truck, it has a hard time getting a grip on loose surfaces. Who knew? Of course, these are also in rough shape.

His other videos catalog him diagnosing issues with poorly running trucks, going through their known issues and fixing them – as best as they can be fixed – before they’re sent back on their routes.

The account is obviously still fairly new, so we can only hope domfromthepostoffice posts more content as it comes in. I’ve got a good feeling he will since his bio says “Stay tuned.” I expect big things from you, Dom.
