The TX has overtaken the diesel-powered TX4 as the most common black cab operating in London. Currently, more than 40% of all black cabs in London are TX electric taxis, with over 6,000 TXs on the capital’s streets.
The history of hackney carriage
This year marks the 200th anniversary of the first Hackney carriage that was licensed in London and the 75th anniversary of the first black cab. Over the decades, the TX has evolved into one of the most recognisable cabs in the capital.
It may surprise readers to learn that there are drivers at the wheel of TXs in over 20 countries. This includes Paris, Madrid, Cairo and Tokyo. The TX has travelled more than 534 million miles globally and prevented 162,000 tonnes of CO2 from being emitted into the atmosphere.
The future of the London Electric Vehicle Company
The company’s CEO, Jörg Hofmann, says that LEVC is set to hit many more milestones in the future. The company is celebrating ten years as part of the Geely Holding Group family, which has brought significant innovation to the business.
The company has undergone a complete rebrand, opened a new manufacturing facility, and launched the TX electric taxi and the VN5 van. Hofmann has expressed gratitude to stakeholders, loyal customers, and valued employees for their part in helping LEVC achieve their recent success.
LEVC’s focus is now on its new strategy to transform into a leading zero-carbon mobility technology company. LEVC aims to build on its unrivalled heritage and grow beyond high-end taxi manufacturing to become a giant in the mobility tech space.
