In Memoriam: Michael A. Deep, 1949-2022

Michael Anthony Deep, 73 of North Adams, MA died on Saturday August 20, 2022, at Bay State Medical Center in Springfield, MA. Mike loved life and fought hard to the very end.

He was born in North Adams, MA on July 21, 1949, a son of Tony Michael Deep and Anna Barbara (Handy) Deep. He graduated from St. Joseph’s High School with the class of 1967 and from North Adams State College in 1973 with a BA in History.

Mike was a licensed insurance and real estate agent and founded Deep Associates Insurance Agency Inc. In 2013, he fulfilled his life-long dream of owning a golf course and poured his heart and soul into operating Waubeeka Golf Links in Williamstown, MA with visions of someday building a destination resort.

He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church. Mike was a former North Adams City Councilor and was the president of the North Adams Lions Club. He was a member of the National Golf Course Owners Association and the Massachusetts Manufactured Housing Association. Mike enjoyed watching Williams College football and basketball and was an avid member of their booster clubs. He was a longtime member of the Northern Berkshire YMCA where he enjoyed playing racquetball or swimming with friends. He was especially kind to the youth of the community with hopes of being an inspiration to their future successes.

Survivors include his sister- Ellen L. (Craig) Millard of North Adams, MA who worked with Mike from the very beginning of his career and remained by his side throughout his long-fought battle these past months. He also leaves his niece and nephew Carrie Ann (Terry) Kondel of Adams, MA and Bryan Anthony Millard of North Adams, MA – both of whom he adored. He also leaves his beloved great-nieces and great-nephews- Kamilia, Kale, Lilly and Jake and his longtime friend- Victoria Richardello of Adams, MA. He was predeceased by his sister, Philomena “Phyllis” Deep on July 16, 1994.

Mike held his family, friends, employees, and customers in the highest regard and will be greatly missed by all.
