In Memoriam: Diane E. Nolan, 1942-2024
Spent Her Career in the Massachusetts Insurance Industry
Diane E. (Flynn) Nolan, 82, passed away on Tuesday, August 20th at UMass Medical Center Worcester, Massachusetts.
Diane was born on March 3, 1942, in Boston, daughter of James and Elizabeth (Evans) Flynn. After graduating from Medway High School and further education at Boston State Teachers College, she worked in the insurance field for Minuteman Insurance, later Sentry Insurance in Concord MA.
She then worked for Brewer and Lord insurance agency of Boston, MA; Crum and Forster Insurance in Boston; and finally at Chubb Insurance Company in Boston for over 15 years.
In her spare time, Diane was an avid reader, especially of detective novels. Her mother worked in the music industry, and so she grew up with and loved music, especially classic jazz of the swing era, such as Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Dave Brubeck. She knew the lyrics of numberless songs by heart. In recent times she would say that there must be quite a jazz show happening in Heaven by now. She was peaceful, meditative and content in her life and enjoyed spending time with her family. More importantly, she was a wonderful mother and will be missed dearly.
Diane leaves behind to mourn her four children: daughter Jennifer Anne Nolan, daughter Audrey Elizabeth Nolan, son David Nolan and his wife Annette Marie St. Pierre, and daughter Eleanor Jane Nolan. She is also survived by her sister, Kathleen Pappas, her nephew Michael Chandler and his wife Tammi Marshall-Chandler and her niece Elena Tucker and husband Steve Tucker, along with a number of in-laws and grand and great-grand nephews and nieces. She is predeceased by her former husband, Bernard V. Nolan, and niece Jeanne Pinault.
