We’ve all seen the statistics and it’s usually brought up as an argument to counter those that say they need hundreds of miles of range: The average person in the U.S. has a commute that’s just 12 miles with an average daily mileage of 42 miles. I’ve always had a problem with this argument though as it assumes that people use EVs mainly just to commute to work. It also doesn’t take into account other parts of the country that have super commuters or are car centric such as Southern California.
More EVs have come to market with longer ranges, over 300 miles or more. While many of them are still expensive, we are drifting towards affordability like with the Chevy’s Equinox EV. Ignoring all the statistics and what the average driver does though, think about your life and how much you drive.
