How many driving lessons do I need?

When it comes to figuring out just how many lessons you may need, this can be difficult. There is no set number of how many driving lessons it takes to pass your test, as each person is different and will learn at their own pace!

When you are learning, there are a set of essential driving skills you need to know. Once you know these you may be ready for your test! There are also recommended steps that you can take which help you learn these steps in a fast and efficient way!

What is the average number of driving lessons?

A common suggestion is that it can take around 45 hours of driving lessons, plus roughly 22 hours of private practice. Again, this is just an average number, and this may not be the exact amount you will need.

It is important to remember that it does not matter how long it takes you to pass your test, what matters is that you pass your test as a safe driver.

However, here are some tips which may help you pass your test when you’re ready for it!

Make sure you have a driving instructor that you’re comfortable with!
Extra private practice between lessons – take out some temporary learner insurance to drive a parent’s car
Study for your theory test
Learn from your mistakes
Familiarise yourself with the highway code
When you’re ready, do a few mock driving tests

How Much Do Driving Lessons Cost?

This is something which will differ as it all depends on where you live. But you should expect to pay between £20-£30 per hour.

There are a lot of introductory offers out there, so make sure to look out for any good package rates to save a bit of money as I’m sure you’ll know by now that learning to drive can be very expensive!

Driving lessons can become very expensive so it may work out a lot cheaper for you to practice between lessons, instead of booking more. This way you can practice what you have learnt in your lessons and hopefully pick it up a lot faster!

Are intensive driving lessons worth it?

Intensive Driving Courses can be seen as a great way to pass quickly. But is it the safest?

They are often advertised as a ‘guaranteed pass’ at the end of the course which may lead you to believe that this is an easy and quick way to pass your test.

Intensive Driving Courses can seem like a great way to reach the test standard in a short period, but what it doesn’t offer are time and experience. When you take your time with learning to drive, you will gain more road experience which will make you much more confident in the long run!
