One family in San Pedro, California kicked off the new year in the worst possible way: Someone vandalized their red Ford Mustang. The vehicle was spray painted with swastikas and racial slurs, local news station KTLA reports.

The vandals in this situation took out their frustration by spray painting swastikas and the phrase “Merry Christmas N——-” on one side of the Mustang. There was something else painted on the other side, but the phrase was incomprehensible.

San Pedro family targeted with racial slur painted on their car

The victim, Reginald Scott, and his son said while they couldn’t believe something like that would still happen in San Pedro, they believes it was done in retaliation over his parking in front of someone’s house during the holiday season.

“Even if you’re parked where you’re not supposed to be, I don’t think that gives you the right to spray paint somebody’s car and call them a racial slur. That’s hurtful,” said Scott’s son.

Even Scott’s neighbors were shocked and saddened at what happened:

“It’s just wrong because they flattened the tires, they damaged it,” said Paul Frias, the victim’s neighbor. “It’s just something you don’t want to see every day because ‘What if that could’ve been my vehicle?’”

What’s worse is that whoever is doing this has targeted Scott and his family twice before. In one incident two years ago, his truck was set on fire. The other incident happened this past Halloween. Scott described to KTLA how the vandals “cut my truck tires and sprayed some stuff all over it to where I think, ‘They’re starting to up it and we’re starting to get scared being around here.’” He and his wife have been worried over the family’s safety ever since.

Scott told KTLA that he’s filed a police report and hopes whoever did this is caught soon but sadly thinks it may be time to move out of the neighborhood to somewhere safer, which is sad but exactly what someone doing this wants them to do. Meanwhile, a Gofundme has been set up for those wanting to help out Scott and his family.
