Brazilian Drunk Driver Hits Motorcyclist, Receives Instant Karma

Cars are great and all, but it really is hard to beat the cheap thrills you can get on a motorcycle, especially on roads that you wouldn’t normally be able to enjoy a sports car on. The big downside, of course, is that if you crash, injuries are much more common. And no matter how safely you’re riding, there’s little you can do to keep reckless drivers from hitting you. Sometimes, though, those reckless drivers get an instant dose of karma.

In the video that you can watch below, Carscoops reports the driver of a Brazilian-market Renault Kwid suddenly swerved to the left while driving among a group of motorcycle writers. In doing so, the driver who G1 identified as Cleverton Lima Vindilino hit one of the riders and knocked them off their bike. The good news is, they lived and weren’t hit by any other cars on the road. Unfortunately, they did not escape entirely unharmed and ended up hospitalized with a broken leg.

We can’t say whether Vindilino would have hit-and-run or not, but he also didn’t have time to make that choice. In addition to hitting the motorcyclist, he also clipped the divider, sending his car spinning. The car then rolled over, sliding on its roof and side before finally coming to rest rubber side down.
Brazilian police arrested Vindilino and administered a breathalyzer test that reportedly showed he had a blood-alcohol level of 0.46 mg/l. That’s not only way over the alcohol limit in the U.S., but it’s also reportedly seven times the legal limit in Brazil. Regardless of the country, though, as Carscoops points out, we’re not talking regular levels of drunk driving here. A BAC level that high could easily put someone in a coma.
Despite being arrested with a BAC level that could have killed him and nearly killing someone else after deciding to drive, Vindilino was allowed to post bail and is no longer in jail as he awaits trial.
