A Third Attempted Fisker Ocean Flip Has Failed

Another Fisker flipper has failed. A little over a week ago, we reported that someone was trying to flip a Fisker Ocean One on Cars & Bids. That didn’t seem like the best idea to us because the previous attempt to do the same thing had already failed. What do we know, though? Apparently, enough to predict that no one wants to pay over sticker for an electric vehicle built by a largely unknown company because, well, once again, the auction failed to reach its reserve price.

To be clear, we’re not saying there’s anything wrong with the Fisker Ocean. By most accounts, it’s a great electric crossover. The styling definitely isn’t going to be everyone’s taste, but we actually like it that way. Some people are going to love it, and others are going to hate it, and that’s much better than designing yet another crossover that’s so middle-of-the-road that no one has any strong feelings about it either way.

But come on. There may only be 5,000 Fisker Ocean Ones, but rarity doesn’t automatically create value. We’re sure the Ocean is a fantastic vehicle, but at the end of the day, it’s still an electric crossover from a new brand that has yet to build any name recognition. Sure, founder Henrik Fisker has designed some gorgeous cars in the past, but it’s not like his last venture went well. And that’s assuming people actually know who Henrik Fisker is, which we’d guess most people do not.

If you’re one of those people who can afford to order a couple of EVs just to see which one you like better, go ahead. We’re not going to stop you. Just be willing to take a loss on the one you decide to sell, especially if it’s a Fisker Ocean. As the last two Ocean auctions have shown, the demand just isn’t there, and you’re not going to get all your money back.
