2025 Audi A5 Is The New Audi A4
Not long ago, Audi announced that it would be changing up its naming system for the transition to electric vehicles. Going forward, cars with odd numbers in their names would be gas-powered, while even-numbered Audis would be electric. Because of that, the A4 is no more. Instead, if you want a compact, gas-powered Audi sedan, you’ll have to buy its replacement — the 2025 A5.

Like the A5 Sportback that the new car also replaces, the new A5 will offer a liftback design to make it even more practical than a traditional sedan. If you need even more flexibility and live in a country where Audi decides to sell it, there will also be a wagon version, as well. We’re not optimistic that the A5 Avant will make it to the U.S., but we’ve been pleasantly surprised before, so you never know.

The European press release mentions several engine options, including a 148-horsepower four-cylinder that’s only available with front-wheel drive and a 201-hp diesel version, but it isn’t entirely clear from the release which engine options will be available in the U.S. Car And Driver reportedly attended a backgrounder on the new A5, however, and claims the American version of the A5 will get a 2.0-liter turbo-four that makes 268 horsepower, while upgrading to the S5 gets you a 3.0-liter V6 good for 362 hp.
Additionally, C/D says the new A5 is also larger than its predecessor, clocking in at 2.6 inches longer overall and with a 3.1-inch longer wheelbase. Regardless of which engine you go for, it now comes paired with a mild-hybrid system that uses a 24-hp motor to improve efficiency.

Inside, you get a modern Audi cabin that features the German automaker’s so-called virtual cockpit in an 11.9-inch driver display, as well as a 14.5-inch infotainment screen. If you need more screens, you can also add a 10.9-inch passenger display. There’s also a head-up display that Audi says can now be used to control vehicle and infotainment functions, which should be pretty cool.
The 2025 Audi A5 will go on sale in Europe starting in November, with orders opening up in July. It currently isn’t clear, however, when it will arrive in the U.S. Pricing also has yet to be announced.
