2024 Ram ProMaster EV
Overview
The Ram ProMaster EV is the latest addition to the growing electric van segment. Like its competitors, the ProMaster EV is a doppelganger of the gas-powered vehicle it’s based on, the ProMaster. We expect it to offer the same functionality and versatility that has made the nameplate a staple amongst tradespeople, delivery drivers, and #VanLife influencers, but quietly and with zero emissions. The estimated ranges of 146 miles for the standard 47.0-kWh battery and 229 miles for the larger 79.0-kWh battery are based on the European WLTP fuel-economy test cycle, which is far less stringent than EPA testing. Even so, the Ram’s range with the bigger battery could beat the Ford E-Transit‘s, though it lags behind the WLTP estimates for the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter. The Ram’s estimated payload capacity also topples the Ford’s by over 300 pounds and the Benz’s by 1565 pounds. We won’t know which one is best until we’ve driven and tested them, but the fact that customers will have options when it comes to electric vans is another sure sign that the transition to battery-backed propulsion is well underway.
What’s New for 2024?
The ProMaster EV is an all-new, battery-electric product. It’s expected to be unveiled in the first half of the 2023 calendar year, and deliveries should begin sometime during the second half. Since Amazon was the first company to secure a commercial contract for the new Ram, Prime members will likely see the new ProMaster EV outside of their homes before year’s end. Just be sure to not mistake a Rivian delivery van for a Ram.

We expect pricing to start around $50,000. While the larger battery is an extra charge, we’re not sure if Ram will differentiate this capability using its conventional 1500, 2500, and 3500 trim-level structure. We also don’t yet know what body configurations will be available, though the Fiat E-Ducato, which is a rebadged ProMaster EV, is available in cargo van and chassis cab form. Since the ICE ProMaster model is only available with rear-wheel drive, we doubt the ProMaster EV will be available with four-wheel drive. Given our limited knowledge of the Ram ProMaster EV model line, we can’t make a recommendation just yet.
EV Motor, Power, and Performance
The ProMaster EV’s European cousin, the Fiat E-Ducato, utilizes a 90 kW electric motor that’s capable of generating 280 newton meters of torque, or roughly 200 pound-feet. In an effort to optimize energy use, the Fiat is limited to just 100 kmh, which is about 62 mph. We don’t know if the U.S. spec ProMaster EV will get the same motor with the same output and speed governor, but it will likely be within the same vicinity.

Towing and Payload Capacity
The Ram ProMaster EV is expected to have a payload capacity of 4189 pounds, which is about 500 pounds less than the gas-fed ProMaster. It’s also about 300 pounds more than that of the Ford E-Transit and 1565 pounds more than that of the Mercedes-Benz eSprinter. Towing capacity figures have not yet been released.
Range, Charging, and Battery Life
The ProMaster EV’s standard battery pack is comprised of three parallel modules while the extended pack is made up of five. There’s no word on charge times yet, though current WLTP estimates are 146 miles for the standard pack and 229 miles for the larger pack. For reference, this means the Ram could possibly have a longer range than that of the Ford E-Transit.
