Overview

Luxury carmaker Genesis is taking another step toward electrification with a third EV model, the 2023 Electrified GV70, which is coming to join the GV60 SUV and the Electrified G80 sedan. Based on the gasoline-powered GV70 SUV, the Electrified GV70 looks just as fabulous but swaps in two electric motors making a combined 483 horsepower. All-wheel drive is standard, and Genesis says the Electrified GV70 will come with a fast-charging system that will allow the battery to be juiced from 10 percent to 80 percent in under 20 minutes.

What’s New for 2023?

The Electrified GV70 is a new nameplate for the Genesis lineup, and it has launched as a 2023 model with sales starting mid-year.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

As expected, the Electrified GV70 carries a big premium over the gasoline-powered model, but the EV variant skips over the regular GV70’s base and Select versions and goes right for the good stuff with Advanced and Prestige trim levels. That means it’s well-equipped right from the get-go, with standard features including a digital gauge display, leather upholstery, 20-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, and a wireless smartphone charging pad, among other items.

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

All-wheel drive will be standard on the Electrified GV70, and it will use two motors, one on each axle, to achieve that. Maximum horsepower is a claimed 483 horsepower. Genesis says the Electrified GV70 will be capable of hitting 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds, which would make it the fastest version of the compact SUV. We tested the regular 2022 GV70 with the optional twin-turbocharged V-6 and made it to 60 mph in 4.9 seconds. Range, Charging, and Battery Life

Genesis hasn’t yet released information about the Electrified GV70’s battery pack or driving range—although we’re expecting about 300 miles per charge­­—but it has announced that the SUV will get a very fast onboard charger. The system is capable of charging at 350 kW, and Genesis says that’s quick enough to get the battery from 10 to 80 percent charged in less than 20 minutes at a public charging station.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The Electrified GV70 shares its interior with its gasoline-powered counterpart, which means it will have a similarly impressive design and upscale ambiance. Interior space is appropriate for the compact-SUV class, and we expect cargo space to be unchanged from the gas model, although Genesis has not released specifications or photos of the Electrified GV70’s trunk.

Infotainment and Connectivity

A large widescreen infotainment display stands proud on the dash and will run the latest version of Genesis’s software interface. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a Wi-Fi hotspot will all likely be offered as standard; we also expect to see a Lexicon stereo system on the options sheet.
