Would like to start therapy without my parents finding out but I’m still under their health insurance
I’m 24f and would like to start in person therapy without my parents knowing but I’m still under their health insurance. I turn 25 this year so I’ll be able to pay for my own health insurance by the next open enrollment in February of 2024. Until then, I’m under my parents’.
I have a decent relationship with my parents but they’re pretty old-fashioned asians so their views on therapy arent the best. My older sister is also currently hiding her therapy from our parents until she feels she’s ready to tell them. One problem at a time though. So we’re in the same boat essentially.
I’ve tried BetterHelp in the past for a while, cycling through 3 therapists in total. It was a hit or miss for me though, and the price didnt justify the lack of progress. I think I really just needed in-person sessions because I communicate better that way.
I’m under BCBS health insurance and I’m not really sure what they cover in terms of therapy. I’ve been reluctant in looking into it in case anything goes back to my parents. What are some alternative options out there? Or is there a way for me to still do therapy under their insurance without them knowing? I’d pay for any out of pocket costs of course. I also have my own car that I’d be using to get to and from my sessions. I just wanna eliminate any record I’d be doing therapy because that’s not a conversation I’m ready to have with my parents just yet. I also don’t even know where to start in looking for an in-network therapist. I just need any advice or help right now with the situation.
ps: sorry if this is flagged incorrectly. I wasnt sure what to label it.
