Hi! So my wife (22F) and I (22M) just had our little one 6 weeks ago (end of May), and we had an interesting insurance situation.

Since my wife is under 26, she was still on her parents insurance, which is state insurance and already had the deductible paid by the time she had our baby, so she was practically 100% covered. However, our baby was not going to be covered as her insurance specifically stated it would not covered the grandchild. Basically, my wife's half of the hospital trip was going to be 100% covered, but our baby would be 0% covered unless through my insurance.

Now, I did not have insurance at the time, and spent a lot of time doing research and seeing what the cheapest option would be, as I could enroll during SEP (Special Enrollment Period). Our baby's bill was going to be around $6900, and it turned out, the cheapest option for us would be to get a very high end marketplace plan ($600 premium, no deductible) as it would automatically cover 90% of the hospital costs (7 months paying $600/month plus a $700 hospital bill would come out to $4900 for the year including all hospital bills/doctors visits/insurance premiums).

I just had a question that could save me a lot more money if possible though. My insurance just paid the hospital bill of around $6200, and I've now paid for insurance to last through July. I still am in the SEP though, as it has not been 60 days. If I switch my plan now to a much cheaper plan, will the insurance go back on what they paid the hospital? Because in theory I could switch to a base bronze copay plan that would have about a ~$150 premium, and would end up saving us $450/month for 5 months now.
