Will I lose my free insurance through the state if I get a new job?
I am actually asking for my friend because she is really worried and I don’t know much about how this all works. I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask this but I hope one of you can answer my questions.
First off, we live in Minnesota. She has free health insurance through the state because of unemployment(I think). She is currently going to therapy and it is covered by said insurance. However, she is about to start a new job which will come with its own health insurance plan. She is worried that she will have to report(to the government or unemployment office or whatever) that she has a new job and she will no longer get access to that original health insurance and thus lose access to her weekly therapy. We worked hard to get her set up with free therapy and find a therapist that she likes so we don’t want to have to start all over. The place she goes is not in-network with her new insurance plan.
With all that said, here are my questions:
Will she lose her original insurance plan if she reports her new employment status?
If so, is it possible to pay as to keep that plan in addition to the new one?
If so, how expensive is it?
If her therapy place is not in-network with her new plan, is she basically sol and need to start over?
Can she get in serious trouble if she fails to report her new employment status?
Please let me know if you know any answers to these questions. Thank you!
