Will I be eligible for Medi-Cal and how long does it take for a medication to be approved?

My situation: I am currently working full time, but I am planning to go back to school to study and become a registered nurse, and it’s pretty much mandatory to study full time.

The problem: I have moderate plaque psoriasis( incurable, but treatable, autoimmune disease that causes unsightly and unbearable red itchiness throughout the body) in which I have to be injected with biologics every four weeks. Very time sensitive. By working full time, I am able to have health insurance to prescribe me the aforementioned medication.

The dilemma: If I don’t work full time, such as part time or just voluntarily leave my job, then I will lose my current Kaiser insurance, because my employer requires full time employment to have coverage. If I lose my insurance, then I will not have the medication needed to remedy it.

Possible solutions: Friends and family have pointed out either speaking with my employer to keep my coverage, or Medi-Cal.

My Concerns: If I voluntarily leave my job, will that make me eligible for Medi-Cal since my income will be zero? Or will it look at past income to decide eligibility? If I am eligible how long will it take to get my medication approved? I have to take my injection every four weeks, and if I miss a dose it could have adverse effects on my condition that may not be able to cover.
