Why doesn’t health insurance cover hearing aids?

I am 32 years old. I was born hard of hearing – not fully deaf but bad enough to require wearing 2 hearing aids my whole life. Every 3-4 years my hearing aids act up and I need a repair or a new pair. My current ones recently stopped working so I went to the audiologist today. A new pair of hearing aids at the quality required for my hearing loss is $8.5k!! To repair the ones I own costs $1k just to do the diagnosis, then add whatever the repairs cost. This would be the 3rd time repairing this pair of hearing aids, btw. Repair takes 1-2 weeks. I have a full time job and need hearing aids to do my job. Lucky me, they rent/loan hearing aids during the repair, which costs a fee (I'll find out how much tomorrow). I am so sick and tired of our health care system! You're telling me I have to pay $8k plus every 3-4 years just so I can hear and get by in my day to day life? Medi-Cal covers hearing aids, but I don't qualify for Medi-Cal. So if you're old and need hearing aids, you can get them covered by insurance (as you should be able to), but if you're born hard of hearing? Tough luck kiddo! If anyone has any suggestions on how to best tackle this I greatly appreciate your help.
