Who do I complain to about a hospital’s prior auth department failing to do their job?
Hopefully this is the right place to ask this question. I'm not sure where else I could post it.
My insurance is requiring a prior auth for my pain medication, but the hospital I go to has a horrible prior auth department. They regularly take over a month just to submit a PA to insurance. When I was trying to get a PA for a different prescription, it took them over 6 weeks to submit.
My friend has recommended I threaten to call the state insurance commissioner. But it seems that the insurance commissioner is meant for filing complaints against your actual insurance company. My insurance company isn't the issue.
I have been on this medication for years. I am out. If it takes them too long to submit the prior auth, where do I file a complaint? I know if I need to, threatening a complaint can get shit done if they're sitting on their hands.
Just looking to be prepared based on prior experience with this hospital's prior authorization team.
