WEX Health FSA is intentionally obtuse and makes things much more difficult than necessary.

When my company switched from BCBS to Cigna, I lost coverage for therapy with my current provider, so I have to get reimbursed by WEX after paying out of pocket. I uploaded receipts for therapy with my counselor's name, NPI and tax ID. Business name is *___________ Counseling," for what it's worth, too. Receipt states "for professional services." This is the same receipt as was provided to BCBS, which I never had any issue getting paid. Claims were rejected by WEX, "receipt not specific enough".

I called WEX, and went through the above. They told me I have to call the provider and tell her to change the receipts to put a more specific phrase for services… I asked, "What phrase would you like the provider to put on the receipt for therapy – "counseling, therapy, mental health counseling…"? I just want the correct phrase so I don't need to do all this again. They said, "We can't tell you what to put there, just try one of those and see if the claim is accepted." This is bullshit – they know exactly which phrase will be accepted and which ones won't.
