WEX administering COBRA is a never-ending nightmare
WEX administered my COBRA for my old employer, but after 12 months, I couldn’t afford it anymore, so I submitted a form to end coverage. Fast forward a month and a half later, and I realize WEX had still been withdrawing over $1,000 from my account for the past three months—without my permission.
I never had autopay on (because who the hell would for that amount?), and when I called Aetna, they confirmed I didn’t even have coverage during that time. So WEX was just… taking my money for nothing.
My former employer agreed that WEX was in the wrong and, since WEX is their agent, agreed to reimburse me for those three months. Meanwhile, I was paying out of pocket for my prescriptions. Fast forward another 2.5 months, and I’m still waiting for my refund.
And now it gets even weirder. My former employer just forwarded me this email from WEX:
What the actual f*ck?? They straight-up admitted they’ll only refund me if they get enough money from other people first?? My former employer agrees I’m owed the refund, so I basically told them, you have the means to pay me back—I'm not waiting for WEX to scam more people first.
How is this even legal?!
