Went to ER, $6,000 bill, insurance isn’t letting me file a claim?

Hello,

I'm never filed for any kind of medical claim in my life, or done anything other than regular checkups, so please bear with me.

A few months ago I went to an ER, it was a serious thing (serious infection needing immediate medical attention), they addressed it, gave me pills, sent me home. I gave them my insurance info but at the time they said they can't find it for some reason?

Now I got an online bill for around $6,000. Now there is a part where it says "self pay discount" which brings it down to $880. I have insurance with a high deductible. How does this normally work?

I went to my insurance website and tried filing a claim but it rejected the bill because it "isn't a bill" and doesn't have what they're looking for. Am I supposed to pay 880 out of pocket then file a claim, or call the hospital to file with insurance?

the "selfpay" part is also throwing me off. It sounds like that discount is applied since they couldn't bill my insurance. If they do go through insurance, am I going to have to basically pay all of the 6k upto my deductible?

thanks!
