Went from full time to prn and benefits were not terminated despite being told they would be

I went from full time to prn-as needed at a job (j1). I confirmed with them on several occasions (in person and in email) that I would no longer be eligible for benefits since I'd only be working around 12 hours a month. J1 starts offering medical benefits for employees who work 20+hours a week. So when I started my new full time job (j2), I enrolled in their benefits. I just found out 8 months later after moving to prn at j1 that medical benefits are still being deducted from my paychecks and I am still covered by j1's insurance plan. I'd didn't notice until now because I had been busy with j2 and didn't take a detailed look at my paystubs (a mistake I'll never make again).

I have had doctor appointments since going prn at j1, but I used j2's insurance plan. I have not used j1's insurance since moving to prn. I do not need 2 insurance plans and I have missed out on over $1k since j1 was deducting around $100 a check for medical benefits that should have been terminated. Am I owed the money that was wrongly deducted? What are my next steps besides notifying HR?
