Was told a hospital was in network and had twins now. Now we’re told it isn’t in network

I (34 F in Utah at the time) needed to get a heart Holter monitor while pregnant. We went to hospital A, and we were informed that we were out of network but that hospital B is in network. We were relieved to know which hospital to go to for the birth of our twins. Of course, we dont have a record of this conversation. Because we were expecting twins, we needed to set up an induction appointment about a month early. We filled out all of the information and went to the hospital B for our appointment. We gave them our insurance info. At no time did anyone inform us that they were out of network. I know we were dumb and should have double-checked, but we were so overwhelmed with preparations for twins. The total price is around $40,000.

It has been 4 months, and we never got our bill. We moved (CO), and DH got new insurance with his new job. He called our original insurance to ask about the hospital bill, and they said the hospital is out of network. They said we could tell the hospital who can file a claim with the insurance company. I just want to know if we are financially effed for the rest of our lives or if there is anything we can do?

For info, our OB was in network.
