[US-VA] Another "Help Me Choose My Insurance" Post

Hi everyone –

Had to bite the bullet and ask for some opinions. Forgive me for my ignorance, but I feel like my plan options (through my employer) are “meh” at best. For 2023, I’m in an HDHP (it has been renamed to the current ‘Option 5’ for 2024 – listed below) as I have not had any medical visits aside from my monthly chiropractor appointment ($60 per month with this plan). Been doing my best to max out my HSA (sadly with Optum) and I have my old HSA with Fidelity (however, not much is in there as I was not maxing it out beforehand – stupid me). If I do choose an HDHP, I make enough to max it out every year (my employee contributes $200 total – small but better than nothing…).

I am a 34-year-old Single Male that generally avoids the doctor whenever possible. Throughout my life, I haven’t had any serious issues that required seeing a medical professional. However, my elderly mother has been pushing me to get a check-up (I have not had a physical since high school) as both sides of the families, especially my father’s side, have some history with medical issues. I know selecting health plans are a “gamble”, though I would like some additional opinions/perspectives. I think what concerns me the most are the variances in deductibles and how much I would be paying for things if I continue with Option.

I welcome all opinions. TIA!
