My dependent(partner) visited the doctor to establish care/obtain a yearly physical. When I logged in to my United Health Care app to view my claims I see that there is an accepted claim for a New Patient Wellness Visit where $0 is owed HOWEVER there is then a separate claim with the code UG, that says “Doctors visit, long” and billed for $83. Now, this visit was not long by any stretch of the imagination. It was 20 minutes tops including the time spent in the waiting room. Is this normal? I have never seen this before and it feels like a way to leech payment for a service that is covered.

UPDATE:

I called UHC yesterday I confirm their reasoning for the including this billing code. They said its because my dependent “discussed” a health issue that was considered diagnostic and not preventative. She then told me that she can email me a list of discussion points that are preventative and not diagnostic to prevent charges from occurring in the future.

I'm sorry, but I have NEVER heard of this before. Can we really not discuss health concerns with our doctors freely? Is this normal? I am in Florida if it matters.
