Upcoming childbirth questions and verifications.

Hi all. My wife and I are expecting and I am trying to figure out all the necessities with health insurance. This is my thought process, please verify:

I have a hdhp with 14k out of pocket max (oopm) for both in network/out of network as a family unit.

My wife is going to leave her job soon and go onto my insurance, hence I refer to the family limits/rules.

It looks like in the language of my insurance I need a pre-authorization from my insurance for the childbirth. So I guess I apply for that?

I don't think the hospital we'll be using is in network but it seems the oopm is the same so I should at most be paying 14k for everything, does that sound right?

It looks like we have 30 days after childbirth to add our kid.

I just want to make sure I am thinking about this process correctly. Basically I need to add her to insurance -> get preauth -> after birth add our child. We've set aside 20k in healthcare cost for this first year, should we be upping that? I talked to my insurance a bit but they said they cannot help us until she's on the insurance since she may not have the same policy plan as me. My HR at work says she will though.
