Unwanted newborn automatically enrollment causing dual coverage problems

Hi all,

I had my daughter in February. She has my husband's last name, not mine. I added her to my insurance I think within a week (it's easily the better insurance between my husband and I).

We've just found out that somehow my husband's insurance automatically added her (30d coverage only) despite neither of us physically adding her to it. I'm not even sure how they found out about her. They spelled her name wrong. But due to this automatic addition, my insurance is contesting coverage of her claims due to there being another covering entity.

Any insight into how the fathers insurance can automatically add a newborn without us providing them that information, or if this is valid?? Or what will happen? We specifically added her to my insurance and not to his. I called my insurance and they said we need to call his insurance to clarify and ?get her removed?

I've read about this occurring automatically but only for the mother's insurance, not the fathers. Feels like some weird trick to artificially create a conflict situation whereby insurance can then deny claims.
