Understanding gap in insurance and re-instatement, treatments within that window, discounts.

Hello,

I have an individual/marketplace plan though the New Mexico insurance marketplace (BeWellNM). The card that I usually paid with was canceled due to fradulet charges and I missed making payments for 2 months. During these 2 months I had a bicycle accident resulting in a broken wrist that required surgery. I finally caught that I had missed making the payments, called the BeWellNM center, and made my payments to re-instate my insurace, the BIG catch being that I was outside of the grace period, and my coverage was terminated to a back-dated point in time (before the injury and medical services). After checking my provider portal they are shoing my claims as denided BUT that each item on the list has a 100% discount on the cost and that I owe $0… So in short:

Insurance through BeWellNM was terminated due to non-payment. My medical services were provided and accepted during the non-payment grace period. Insurance was re-instated right when making a payment, but the cancellation for non-payment was backdated to the first month of non-payment. Services were provided though the same hospital's insurance company. Online protal shows the itemized charges for surgery, followed by a full discount (described as "The amount of discount your Health Plan negotiated with the provider"). The discount and amount charged cancel eachother out, and shows that I owe $0 even though the claim was denied. Healthcare provider and hospital are the same entity. Services were provided while my insurance was active during the non-payment 'grace period' but after insurance termination, they are saying that although originally accepted, services during that window will be my repsonsibilty.

In short… should I expect to be on the hook…? The 100% discount and owing $0 but the claim being denied is especially confusing, although its on one of the 'this is not a bill' pages. Medical services were provided >1 month ago and I haven't recieved any bills as of yet. Any input or insight is very appreciated.

Thank you
