Stuff like this is very hard for me since I have mental health issues that are severe enough that require me to be on disability. I have a very hard time focusing. But my mom is on drugs and is going to end up losing everything she has if I don’t help her with things like this. Anyway, she made just under $13,000 last year doing doordash but I believe something called AGI will take her down much lower than that since she has over 10,000 miles driven in that time, so she’s looking at being able to reduce her taxable income to probably close to $5,000. My confusion is deciding whether or not she should claim all of those deductions because of her healthcare. She does not qualify for medicaid because she’s got a 401k and a pension. When I put her information into a calculator to see if she’d be eligible for a discount, it didn’t give her any. It looks like there isn’t any discount until about $21,000, which is about $1,000 a month(or about her entire monthly income last year). I’m wondering if there’s anything I can do to help her with her healthcare costs as even the cheapest plans are showing around $1000 a month. Something maybe I don’t know. It’s important to note that this is in Ohio, a medicaid expansion state. May also be relevant to say she is 63 and in need of another knee replacement in the near future.
