Trying to get ADHD Diagnosis/Evaluation on Medi-Cal

Hello, I've recently been going back and forth with Blue Shield California Promise Health Plan (my insurance) and my GP since I'm trying to get an ADHD Diagnosis/Evaluation from a Neuropysch. I went to my GP almost 2 months ago and got a referral to see a psychologist. I got a call back from them saying that they didn't have a psych at the office, so I had to find one in my network, which I did. However, the psych's office said that they needed an authorization code, so I called my GP and they said that they would fax the authorization code to the office, but it would need to go through insurance again. It ended up getting denied because apparently while the psych is in my network, they aren't in the same medical group, and my insurance said I have to go back to my GP to get another referral/authorization for a psych that is both in my network and in my medical group.

This has all gone down over the course of 2 months, and its been frustrating waiting weeks for a response from either side only to be told I have to go through more and more steps. Should I follow their instructions and go back, or am I approaching this whole thing wrong?
