Trying to decide on a health plan

So quick backstory:

I have not had any coverage since Aug 2023 bc lost job and couldn’t afford anything. I finally got a new job and started going over the plans and was shocked at the BS prices it is through my employer.

I am married and that is it. My wife and I are completely healthy and never ever go to the doctor unless we need a prescription (ibuprofen 800mg for her and zoloft for me). We are going over hte plans and are considering a HDHP since we never see a doctor for anything. Here’s the kicker though.

The coverage through my employer is $1276 a month for Employed and Spouse (10k ded/ 12.8k OOP max). Similiar coverages through the marketplace in my state (VA) are around $350-500 a month. I am so confused as to why my employers insurance is so much more through them with a spouse than going through the marketplace.

Also, the one thing I am concerned about is the OOP max. I am a homebody and never go anywhere except the gym and store. My wife and I are mostly wanting protection for those “OH CRAP” moments, like bad car accident, surgery, or a venomous snake bite (me mostly. I like snakes). I think it would be hard to be able to fork over 12,8k OOP up front so my insurer can cover the rest of the 1-300k for treatment. How does this work? And what recommendations can you give me? I start employment in a couple weeks so i got some time to think.
