Hello, I purchased a traveler United Healthcare Global for my underage nephew who is a non-us resident visiting me here in the US. Right before traveling he was by a stray dog overseas where he lives. He received two out of five rabies shots overseas and received one here in a US hospital today — apparently you only need 4 in the US. The hospital took the insurance info and my information given he is a minor. I called a few private Urgent care places before the trip that told me they were able to give him the shots for a few hundred dollars but they cancel last minute so I had to go to the hospital today. The person checking me in told me that it would be a couple thousand dollars which is insane. I called the insurance company and they mentioned they won’t pay for the hospital visit because the incident happened before arriving. Now I am in this limbo and not sure what to do. He is supposed to stay a couple more weeks and receive the vaccines here but I am scared that I will be paying thousands of dollars while the vaccines was 20 dollars overseas. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
