Transitioning Jobs Post-Surgery (30 Y/O Man — Texas)
Hello everyone, I am (unfortunately) going to be undergoing surgery on my ACL/Meniscus in the next few weeks. The surgeon tells me that I will also have anywhere from 6-12 months of PT post-procedure. I have insurance with my current employer, but am essentially waiting on an offer letter for a job with a new company. I will have insurance with the new job, but I have concerns about switching to a new plan while I'm in the middle of physical therapy. Could anybody provide some insight on how I should best approach this?
If I have a gap between my current plan ending and the new one starting, could I end up getting hit with bills?
Will I get pushback from the new health insurance provider because I'm in the middle of PT? I have heard of premiums being higher for people who aren't in good health (I am in good health otherwise — just the surgery) and I assume they won't be ecstatic to take on a client who is immediately going to be billing them for physical therapy for several months.
I do have the option to be added to my wife's plan from her employer, but I have heard that family plans are typically very expensive. Perhaps I should just look into that instead but again, I'm concerned about having a lapse in coverage between my current plan.
I would be extremely thankful for any insight.
