Therapist and PCP contracts ended mid year and I can’t afford the bills

Hi, I’m freaking out.

So I’ve been seeing this therapist for over a year and chose an expensive ish HMO plan that she was covered under so I would continue weekly appointments. I have a Cigna HMO plan.

My last two visits with my therapist were denied on the claims page and total $400 in bills that I just cannot afford at all. I was never informed that her contract ended and would not have gone to see her if I had known this.

A Cigna rep on the phone said I should appeal both denied claims, so I’m in the process of doing so. Meanwhile I’m totally spiraling and mourning the loss of my favorite therapist, I feel completely overwhelmed and sad and angry and anxious because I have no therapy now and no way to pay for this. I also lost my primary care doctor and have to find a new one because apparently that contract ended too.

I guess I’m asking if there’s any chance these appeals will help or if Cigna will waive the $400 bill? I never would have kept seeing my therapist if I knew it would charge me full rate

Thank you!
