The hospital billed a claim to my primary and secondary insurance both as “primary” and asked me to take care of the problem.

Context: I had a few months where I had my insurance from work (primary) while also covered under my partner’s insurance from his work (secondary).

I ended up having an emergency surgery in January with coverage from both insurances. Great timing I guess lol. I received one of the bills and it didn’t appear to have been sent through the secondary insurance. This bill was pretty big. I contacted hospital billing. They said they’d sort it and bill the other insurance. Apologized. Cool cool not a problem stuff happens.

Hospital emails me the following on Friday:

“I am following up regarding your bill #XXX, as per review both of your Blue Cross Blue Shield plans have been billed. However, both plans processed as primary. In this case you will need to update your coordination of benefits with your secondary plan BCBS with subscriber id#XXXXX. Please contact them as soon as possible.”

Is this my problem? I’ve had two insurances another time in my life and per google – it’s the hospital/clinic’s job to bill correctly? Just curious what you all think before I go waste hours of my time calling these people.
