I don’t know what to do at this point, any advice helps! I have health insurance through my job in NC, I actually work at a hospital. This may sound stupid, 4th of July 2022 in FL , I was riding a bicycle when I fell against the sidewalk curb, my head was bleeding and everyone was worried about a possible concussion. We drive to 3 urgent cares but they were closed due to the holiday so we have to go to the ER. 1 CT scan and 3 X-rays later, no concussion but my bill is a total of about $13,000 since it’s out of network. Obviously, I cannot afford this. Every time I call my health insurance about any updates, it’s been 8 phone calls, it’s always the same answer ” the claim is stuck in the processing system” ” It will take 7-10 business days to get it solved” and nothing happens. They’re saying that they haven’t denied anything yet but according to my hospital bills my insurance is either being denied or not responding. I’ve asked for an itemized bill from the hospital and I only see one billing error which is only $300 and I went to fair health consumer website to see if anything was overpriced but nothing. I call the hospital billing department and explained everything, she said not to worry, it won’t go to collections yet but my insurance is taking a very long time to respond which is unusual she said. Should I just keep calling and waiting for an answer? They haven’t mentioned anything about paying the deductible, and even paying that would still be expensive. I’m a healthy 25 year old, nonsmoker. The only times I used my health insurance was for a regular women’s check up and birth control and that’s it. I regret my decision for ever stepping foot in the ER and should’ve stayed home instead. I also feel like I’m better off without health insurance.
