Hi all,

22 F in California here. I need to enroll in health insurance because my parent passed away at the beginning of March, causing me to lose my coverage since I was on their plan.

It is now only a week or so until the 60 day special enrollment period is up. I did not mean to wait until the last minute; things have just been very difficult since my parent's passing, and I am only just now getting back on the horse. I am thinking about applying for MediCal, but I have heard that it can take up to 45 days for an application to be processed.

My question(s): if my application is approved after the special enrollment period ends (which it likely will be), will I be able to then choose to a receive care from a specific provider (specifically Kaiser, as this was my previous provider).

If my application is denied, would I still be able to enroll in a private health plan even though the special enrollment period has technically ended?

Thank you; any help is appreciated!
