Someone pretty please tell me this explanation is wrong ?
I’m 22 and was on my parents’ insurance until September 1, 2024. I had great insurance my whole life, so I never really had to learn anything about it. I just showed my card and that was it. After being dropped, I knew I had to find new insurance ASAP. I have severe asthma and constantly go to the doctor and ER. I also have asthma and depression meds that are expensive, and I need them—I can’t go without them. I’m broke—actually poor. I was in college but dropped out because I couldn’t afford it anymore. Even if I get a job, it’s not going to pay enough to cover the cost of insurance. Getting a job that offers insurance isn’t something I’ll depend on. I get sick so i’ll probably a lot and will probably call out even more without my meds. There are too many chances that I’ll end up job-hopping until I get an actual career going, and I don’t want my life depending on whether I stay at a job.
I went to the ER, and now I have a $4K bill. I have all the asthma meds I need but can’t afford them. My drugstore, Walgreens, doesn’t take GoodRx coupons, and even if they did, I still couldn’t afford my meds. They used to cost me $2. After looking at insurance on the marketplace and using ChatGPT to understand it, I’ve basically concluded that I’ll be paying $300 a month for nothing. After I finally spend 10K, the insurance I’ve been paying $300 monthly for will finally start covering things. So every doctor appointment, medication, and ER trip will have to be paid at full price. If that’s true, I’ll just suffer until I’m forced to go to the ER for free care over and over, racking up ER bills. I won’t even be able to afford the $300 per month, let alone paying for everything until I hit the 10K deductible.
I’m limited in the jobs I can do because my asthma is so bad, and I only have a diploma and school debt. Is this wrong? Like does it work that way forreal or is chat gpt wrong right no way it works that way ????? Can someone explain the real way it works ? Because if it works that way i’m not sure how anyone is getting help they need? NO, I’M NOT ABLE TO GET MEDICAID BECAUSE I HAVE ASTHMA. I’M NOT DISABLED. I DON’T GET GOVERNMENT FUNDS FOR MY ASTHMA. I DON’T HAVE ENOUGH CREDITS FOR DISABILITY. I DON’T HAVE A CHILD. I’M NOT OLD. I’M NOT A FOSTER CHILD. I AM NOT ELIGIBLE FOR ANY FREE INSURANCE. I’M TIRED OF PEOPLE TELLING ME I AM. I CALLED THE MARKETPLACE ALREADY. I CALLED AND LOOKED EVERYWHERE.
