So I want to get off my parents health plan but they refuse to, let me explain.
So I’m currently on my parents Kaiser HMO insurance but I also have Anthem Blue Cross from Medi-Cal. My primary insurance is Kaiser and I’m unable to change that unless I withdraw from Kaiser (if I go to the doctor they see which insurance I have and what pays higher I was told by a Medi-Cal rep over the phone). Problem is with Kaiser insurance you can only go to Kaiser hospitals and they often times have long waits to see doctors and other health professionals (especially when it comes to mental health) and I cannot afford the copays as it’s based on my parent’s insurance who make far more than me (I’m in college but work a part time job to pay for class). Medi-Cal however has no copays or deductibles whatsoever with free ER visits even and because I just need to go to any doctor or health professional that accepts my insurance, the wait times are virtually non existent. But having Kaiser insurance would render everything useless as it’s seen as my primary insurance and I’d be charged higher copays for going out of network. So I’ve tried calling Kaiser asking if I could be removed from my parent’s plan but they said I must get them to do it as I’m a dependent and they refuse to. I have serious medical as well as mental health things going on and the wait times are a few months right now and the copays are ridiculously high for me for someone who is on a shoestring budget and literally cannot afford food on some days (I tried applying for EBT and welfare cash but I got denied as I get no financial aid for college but it’s not my fault as my parents refused to do FAFSA until after the filing deadline thus making me ineligible for grants or even subsidized loans). It’s stupid that my parents do not pay for anything of mine but that’s for another place. So if someone can help me out that would be greatly appreciated.
