Hello! I’m wondering about short term health insurance in Maryland.

Long story short, I was laid off and lost my employer health insurance in February. Before I lost that insurance I signed up for marketplace insurance to start March 1.

On February 28 someone from the marketplace called me and told me I was eligible for Medicaid and helped me submit that application. On my marketplace portal Medicaid showed as active. However, I never received a card so in May I called to see if they could send a new one.

Turns out I was never enrolled due to a clerical error so I had to resubmit my application. Then I was told I don’t actually qualify for Medicaid and I’d have to go through the marketplace. That’s fine, I don’t care, I just need insurance since apparently I haven’t been insured for three months. I signed up for a marketplace plan on May 19, but since it was after the cutoff of May 15, the plan won’t start until July 1.

I have filed complaints with the attorney general’s office who deals with health insurance issues but haven’t heard anything yet.

I am taking a trip June 20-July 2 and will at least have emergency coverage through my travel insurance during that time.

I looked into short term health plans to cover me this month but none are offered in my zip code (21211). I am 28 and a healthy non-smoker if that makes a difference. Do I have any other options?
