Secondary used as Primary for years, accidentally, how to proceed?

Looking for guidance or people who dealt with a similar situation

For the past 3 years it appears that I’ve been using my partners health insurance as Primary when really it was my Secondary.

I’m a grad student a believed I had properly opted out of coverage from the insurance provided by my student association when I started my program.

I found out very recently I didn’t opt out properly and hence was technically still registered with that insurance (as a grad student the tuition fees are waived by the school so I didn’t even notice I was getting billed for the included insurance every start of academic year).

I never even activated my student health insurance account on the provider’s web portal, nor have I ever carried their card/submitted a claim to them.

On the other hand, I was reimbursed around 3k$ over 3 years (I’m in Canada so yeah it’s not an insane amount) through a multitude of claims to my partners health insurance.

I would like to set things straight to avoid any problem going forward.

Has anyone here dealt with a somewhat similar situation? I intend to just call the company and try to have them reverse all claims going 3yrs back but am dreading the process and would like to know what to expect – thank you
