I really have ZERO idea how to maneuver this situation. I have been overweight my entire life, yo-yo dieting since I was about 8. I have some significant ongoing health issues, and while I have been able to lose weight, it is always come back and brought friends with it. My health insurance specifically forbids any weight loss surgery. I have the option to get on my husband's health insurance through his company, but that would be very expensive. I have talked to my current insurance company and they will not allow me to buy an add-on to allow weight loss surgery. Is there a secondary type of insurance that I could purchase via the marketplace or any other company so that weight loss surgery would be covered? I'm 100% sure that I could get every one of my doctors to send a letter requesting it from the insurance company, however my employer has picked a plan that specifically excludes that benefit. Has anyone maneuvered this situation before? Would it be easier just to finance it? If I did a self-pay/finance option would any complications be covered under my health insurance?
