Retroactive Cobra for newborn?

31/NY/$300k+

I had to go on disability leave due to pregnancy complications at 26 weeks pregnant while I was hospitalized. I didn’t qualify for FMLA, so I paid for Cobra, which was reimbursed by my employer. I paid for Cobra for the months May, April and June. On June 24 my baby was born. I plan to quit my job after paid family leave, for context. I’m wary of my employer wanting cobra payments back so I opted to begin NYPFL on July 1. By starting PFL I’m again on payroll and have full benefits via my employer. My daughter was also added to my insurance.

I just got a note from our benefits provider that I should contact their Cobra department to initiate a QLE for the month of June for my daughter. However I have claims in my insurance portal dated for June, and in her name, that have already been processed. Some hefty hospital bills and such, that I don’t want to get screwed over and billed for!

My question is: do I need to pay Cobra for my daughter for the month of June (or rather June 24-30) or is she covered under my insurance for her first 30 days which was my understanding?

Sleep deprived, please use simple language with me as this is confusing enough and I thought I’d dealt with everything! Thanks!
